Designing with Chicken Wire: Vila Dish Edition

The idea behind this one of a kind vessel is to create a sustainable & eco-conscious substitute for round floral foam trays. The Vila Dish was designed to be used with chicken wire to give you that perfect no vessel look centrepiece and compositions.

The ripples moulded into the base of the dish along with the subtle inverted lip assist in reducing water movement and perfect for securing your chicken wire foundation & helping with stem placement as you build your composition. While also limiting your impact on the environment & reducing your plastic and chemical usage.

See my step-by-step process when designing with chicken wire in the Vila Dish.

Step 1 - Prepare your flowers, make sure your Vila Dish is clean and dry and you have your clippers and wire ready to get started!

Step 2 - Cut a piece of chicken wire roughly 3 x the length of your dish. Roll your wire over three times to make a ball, keeping it nice and loose.

Step 3 - Use your hands to “scrunch” in your wire so that you can push it into your vessel and begin to tuck it under the lip of your Vila Dish. The secret is to push it in just enough so you won’t see the wire in your arrangement but not to push it in too much, restricting where you can place your stems.

Step 4 - Fill your Vila Dish to ½ full and begin arranging your blooms! We love starting with our biggest thickest stems to make sure we have enough room for placement (making use of the ridges as an extra tool to keep your arrangement in place) then working from the outer edges and in - leaving room for the dreamiest showstopper blooms in the centre.
